The August 2021 BOLD webinar will be hosted by the IEU NSW/ACT Branch. The session will focus on our Support Staff members and their role in leading the change for the employees other than teachers in the non- Government education sector.
This is a fastest growing sector of our membership.
They are predominately females
They work in roles that have historically been undervalued due to the highly gendered nature of the work
They work in the lowest paid and most vulnerable roles in the sector,
They are mostly working part-time workers and often engaged in temporary roles that are at subject to variable funding and the latest education policy trend.
They are also subject to periods of leave without pay or wages that are averaged to accommodate pupil vacation periods
Yet without them schools would simply not function.
The NSW and Victorian branches have been working with a focus on our support staff members to ensure that the industrial instruments are fit for purpose and reflective of the work that is actually happening in schools - that our non-teacher members receive pay and conditions they are commensurate with the value of the work.
The participation of support staff members in the process is essential. They know best what it is that they do - and what it takes to do it.
These women are leaders – ensuring that their colleagues and peers are represented - that their voices are heard.
